Funny Taenzer

Timber is always sleeping in Taenzer's crate, but she usually lies near me--on the bed or the couch, or sometimes on the floor by my feet.

But lately I noticed she's started going into the crate in the living room that I set up hoping to tempt Timber into spending more time in here instead of off by himself, and she stays in there anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.

The other night Timber was up on the bed with me (dog torture--I was combing him), and she went into his crate. I've never seen her do that before. Timber spends a lot of time in her crate, but I've never seen her in his. She picked up one of the deer antlers and instead of bringing it up onto the bed or settling down in her own crate, she just settled right down in his. Very unusual.

He seems to be doing a little better, btw. He doesn't seem to be quite so itchy, or so stinky, though a good bath is still in order. I don't know if it's the vacuuming or the diet, but I'm glad something's helping, even if it's just a little bit.

I took them to play in my friend's yard again yesterday. It was another very nice day, sunny and not very cold, and I'd intended to throw tennis balls for them, but it turned out I didn't have any in the van! I did find a cheap plastic frisbee, so I threw that for them. Taenzer loves frisbees, but I stopped throwing them for her when she was around a year old because she would just fling herself into the air after them and she pulled a muscle or sprained something a couple of times. Timber'd never played with one, but he figured if she was interested in it, it was something to get involved with. They were really very good--I could say the name of one and throw the frisbee, and that dog would (usually) wind up with it. But then it seems like the rules were that once the dog who'd been named had got the frisbee, and if I didn't say anything else, it was fair for the other dog to try to steal the frisbee, so they'd run around tugging and growling and bumping each other. Pretty cute. They eventually bit big holes in it (it was a very cheap frisbee), so I put it into the trash. Taenzer was heartbroken, and tried to climb the fence to get into the trash container until I distracted her.

And when I came home, I made sure to put some tennis balls into the van!

Our Biko stays by herself during the day. She's learned how to open the door to the basement, and she would stay down there for hours. She only comes, when I call her for dinner, or when I go out and call "kitchen", that's were they'll stay while I'm gone. She also comes, when she hears the preparations for going for a walk, smart girl. But since the TV is downstairs, she doesn't have to stay alone too much. She only wants to snuggle shortly before bedtime. Basically she does what she wants. :o) Oh, and tennis balls are very important! ;o)
