I cast on for the Baby Poonam sweater yesterday. I love knitting baby sweaters and I love knitting cables, but I just give up on trying to get the size right. I'm once again using a size smaller needles, and the plain stocking stitch part is okay--I could probably go down another size and still not be too firm--I cast on for the newborn-3-month old size and I'm *still* coming in somewhere between 6-month and 9-month. So. Fine. I'll just make the sweater and enjoy myself.
Of course, I'm changing things--I'm working in the round instead of pieces, and am doing the back in plain stocking stitch instead of the Texture Stitch it calls for. I thought about making two fronts, so it would be patterned all the way around, but felt too lazy. I think it will be a nice little sweater.
It's a bit warm inside, but it's a beautiful fall-like day outside--sunny, breezy, in the 70s (low-to-mid 20s celsius). We've been out once. I expect we'll be out at least twice more. Sometime today I have to go pick up some prescriptions and get some groceries, but I'm looking forward to sitting out in the lovely weather with the dogs and knitting.
Oh--it's official, I've lost 20 pounds. It's a little annoying that no one at work has noticed, but I'm not doing it for anyone at work, I'm really doing it for my poor knees. Fifteen more and I'll be inside the top range of the "normal" BMI for someone of my height. I'm trying to "eat healthy," and I can't say I feel any better than when I wasn't trying to eat healthy, but I'm not hungry, either, and don't have any cravings, so I guess that's good. Esp. since I have no willpower and would cave in about 2 seconds if I did start craving something. If I can keep up a 1.5-2.0 pound loss every week, I'll be where I want to be about the end of October.
Anyway, I'm kinda happy with myself. Good girl!

Well done, in the weight loss department! That's quite an achievement. I've been on a diet since the beginning of June. I didn't weigh myself, and had some fall backs, speak - no will power, and pizza, chocolate accidents. My son's on the same diet, and we measured him from head to toes then, and today, and he's lost so many inches all over his body.
We are on a no carbs diet, except for beans, and maybe once a week a whole wheat sandwich. Just a lot of veggies, mixed salad, chicken mainly, ham, eggs and fruit.
I had a check up recently and all my numbers where fantastic. I've never eaten so many eggs in my life before and I was a little woried, but it didn't do anything bad for my cholesterol.
I wish you the best in keeping your goal. I have a lot more to go than you do. I'm sure you can do it.
But isn't will power extremely hard? I don't seem to have a lot of that. :o)
Thank you! (vbg) ANd congrats to you and your son--sounds like you're doing excellently well!
I'm sort of counting calories, although I'm also trying to emphasize protein and reduce carbs. I have a slice of whole-grain bread with peanut butter for breakfast, cottage chese and fruit for lunch, a chicken breast with veggies for dinner, 2 pieces of Dove dark chocolate about 8 p.m., and a handful of raisins before bed. It sounds boring, but this time of year there's lots of fresh ripe fruit as well as canned, and there's lots of different mixes of frozen veggies, and you can use different seasonings on the veggies--I've used a lemon-herb mix, taco seasoning, soy sauce, and teriyaki sauce. Earlier I was eating pitted sweet cherries (fresh) with Dannon creme caramel yoghurt which was incredibly rich and delicious, and have treated myself to some great locally-grown cantaloupe with cottage cheese. I'm also trying to drink lots of water. Now I need to add exercise to the mix!
