dogs and knitting

Having just checked in to see Monika's latest gorgeous shawl--and you really need to see this and read the story behind it: http://yarnloopie.blogspot.com/2008/01/alex-comfort-shawl.html --I thought I'd do a short entry.

I'm about to start another project. I know, I'm not done with the tube socks yet (and I'm thisclose!). But since I rediscovered the guanaco and cashmere in the stash, I've been obsessing over them. Last night I did some rough measuring of the guanaco--the old nose-to-fingertips-of-outstretched-arm method--and figured I have about 40 yards of the copper-colored guanaco and slightly more than twice that--at least 80; perhaps as much as 100 yards--of the fawn guanaco. Plus I have 75 yards of the cream-colored cashmere. Which is in the vicinity of 200 yards, more or less, total. So I'm thinking maybe I could do a neck warmer--maybe lace--using the copper for the two edges, and stripes of the fawn and cream in between. Maybe feather and fan--not sure yet.

Also last night, at the dogtime.com site, I took the test about what kind of dog would be best for me. Know what answers I got? Doberman. Otterhound. Bull Mastiff. Rat Terrier, for crying out loud! Know where German Shepherd was on the list? 78. Since Dobermans, Bull Mastiffs, and Rat Terriers are pretty far down on the list of dogs I would ever consider getting, I have serious doubts about this test! I wouldn't go so far as to say I'd never recommend it for someone wondering what breed of dog might suit them best--I'd need to know what other people got on it.

Any dog that is not a German Shepherd is just a dog wannabe.
