Cannon Beach sock

I finished the first one last night. Here are some photos:

The original Cannon Beach:

The Cannon Beach sock:

It's okay. It's the right idea, anyway. But the heel is too wide, the heel flap is too long, the ankle and foot are baggy, and I should have started shaping the toe much earlier. In fact, that's about the ugliest toe I've ever made

Oh well. It's a learning experience. Maybe 7 scallops are too many; maybe 6 are enough. A lace pattern needs to be stretched to get the full effect, and clearly, while the wavy ripples are there, the y/os don't show.

It took me almost two months to finish this one sock--granted, I'm working on other things as well, but man, working with size 00 needles means lots and lots of teeny-tiny stitches. Someone on the socknitters list was talking about working socks on size 000. I'm not sure I'd have the heart for that. They'd have to be very very special socks indeed. But I'm about 99% positive I couldn't get a decent firm sock fabric with this yarn if I went up a needle size.

But I think I'll take a little break before I start it again.
