And the sweet peas continue to straggle along, bless them. They look like a flock of butterflies, don't they?
I haven't written much about knitting recently, mostly because I haven't been knitting much. Things have been a bit stressful. At any rate I finally remembered how calming knitting can be, and wanted something I didn't have to mess with much, so I got some really ugly worsted-weight wool out of the stash and cast on using size 10.5 needles. I increase with a yarn-over at the start of every row, and work 4 or 5 rows of garter stitch, then a row of yo/k2tog. It won't be anything beautiful, but it's mindless knitting and not so small as socks, and it might turn out to be a warm lap-throw or shawl. We'll see.

Sometimes when I'm crocheting (or knitting), it seems like counting prayer beads or rhythmically chanting a mantra. . . maybe that's why I find it so calming. Plus the color and feel of the yarn . . .
Now sewing your crocheting together, that's another thing: stressful!
Gosh I love sweet peas, I just can't seem to get them to grow!
Shay, sweet peas are so tricky. They hate heat, and I'm sure the only reason I've had any success this year is that it's been so cool and wet this summer--English weather. I sowed them in February--and again in March, twice--and they took forever to sprout, and once they had four leaves they just sat there for the longest time and didn't do anything. It's supposed to help in our part of the country if you sow them indoors and transplant them up to 6 weeks before the last frost date, but I don't have any place inside to start seedlings.
Jane, exactly. The Zen of Knitting/Crocheting (and I'm pretty sure there's a book by that name).
And yes, the look and feel of the yarn is important. Although my current yarn isn't anything to write home about. I got it in a grab-bag sale. It has the virtue of being 100% wool, but it's a slightly scratchy wool, and it's a handpaint, but in camouflage colors with just a little sort of smoky blue. As I said, pretty ugly. But the knitting itself is good. Very good.
