Hair storm!

If the amount of hair a German Shepherd sheds in the fall is indicative of how severe the winter will be, we're in for a doozy. I have never seen dogs shed the way Taenzer and Timber have been shedding. You'd think they were doing the spring blow instead of the autumn shed, and brushing has exactly the same result--you wind up with enough to make a Pomeranian, and the next day there's still ankle-deep hair all over the house.

I was hoping to wait until Thanksgiving to put plastic over the windows--because of course once you have plastic on the windows, you cut off all your fresh air--but the low is supposed to be 30 Sunday night and 28 Monday night. I think now the problem will be finding a day warm enough to put plastic on! (I like to put it outside because you can cover up the entire window, including where it seams with the house. Also, the dogs can't tear it when it's outside.)

I didn't lose any weight last week. *sigh* I didn't gain any, but I didn't lose any. I ate pizza left over from a portfolio grading session Tuesday, and had those two baked apples and a couple of cups of vanilla cappucino. Nothing truly hugely caloric--except the pizza--so that indicates to me that it's only a matter of a couple of hundred calories a day that makes the difference between my losing weight and my not losing weight. And just as I feared, the colder weather makes me crave hot comfort food, and veggies just don't do the trick. Maybe I should be eating that baked apple as my lunch, along with a carton of yoghurt or some low-fat cottage cheese. I'll try that, instead of a Lean Cuisine. I only have another 15 pounds to go--I don't want to stop now!

Taenzer just came trotting in here with a tiny piece of black plastic, maybe the size of a grain of cooked barley--what do you suppose impelled her to pick up and carry something so small? I'm grateful she didn't swallow it! This morning I've found several very small pieces of black plastic that look as if they were broken off something, but darned if I know what. Weird.

Speaking of weird, I creeped myself out yesterday looking at pictures on the Abandoned But Not Forgotten site. I don't know why. Usually I find it interesting and imagination-provoking, but not yesterday. Possibly because it was such a miserable grey, rainy, cold, winter-is-coming day. I spent the evening browsing eBay for Laura Ashley things (specifically a replacement for my Bramble-pattern comforter, which my sweet darling Taenzer tore holes in when she was a shark-toothed little puppy), and that helped a little.

I'm still thinking about what my next knitting project should be. I know what I want but (a) I haven't found a pattern for what I'm thinking of and (b) I'm not sure I've got any yarns that would suit what I have in mind. So I guess I'll keep thinking a while.
