A friend gave me a couple of pounds of grass-fed beef that her family had ordered from a local locker, and that had somehow got unfrozen. I stuck it back in the freezer to save for the dogs. Tonight they got half--half a pound each--mixed into their kibble--and were they happy doggies! Even Timber, who's been walking away from his dinner (and worrying me--he weighed less than 70 pounds at the vet), licked his plate clean.
Taenzer had an anxiety attack or something at noon--she spent most of the noon hour standing in my lap insisting on being hugged. I have no objection to this of course, but I would rather have her *front* end than her back end! Silly, silly girl.
I think I've fixed that seed-stitch sweater. I dug around in my stash until I found a hot-pink sport-weight yarn to do the collar with. In that weight yarn the collar lies nice and flat like it's supposed to. The hot pink isn't quite as delicate and girly as the pale baby-pink, so I might venture out to Walmart this weekend and see if I can find a baby-pink sport-weight yarn. So I might also see if I can find buttons for the Baby Poonam sweater. I know I won't be able to find anything cute like the Beatrix Potter buttons, but I might be able to find something.
I also found a bootie pattern I can adapt. I made up a test bootie using the original directions, and it was clearly way too big, so I reduced the stitches and rows to 2/3 of the original, and I think that's about right, though I wish I had a 6-month-old baby to try them on to be sure. AND the thing I like about them is you can make them in one piece--no seams! I've made a white pair with hot-pink ties and seed stitch on the top of the toe to go with the seed stitch sweater, and am making a pair out of the Baby Poonam yarn with a little cable on the toe.
So I won't go so far as to say that I feel smug, but I do feel better about my baby projects than I did. (It's still possible that I may go back and rip out the buttonholes on that seed stitch sweater and do them over, though...) I have 3 more sweaters to make, with hats and booties. I have some bulky-weight hand-painted alpaca/wool that I made a circular toddler sweater from, and maybe have enough to make one in infant size--that would go fast. It's a strong pink with blues and violets in it, but, you know, it is pink. It's too bad there's not enough time to make a sweater out of something like Dale Baby Ull. Garnstudio has some beautiful baby patterns made of the ligher weight yarns.
I need more time!
