Last night I was going to put up the pictures of the fallen trees when I got home. Went to get online and got a "no dial-tone" message. So I checked the plug-in to make sure it was seated firmly--yup. Checked the other end. Yup. Unplugged it from the computer and plugged it into the phone. Dead silence. Not even a crackle. Checked the bedroom phone. Dead silence. Called my phone from my cell phone--got a busy signal. ????
Called the phone company this morning, never did talk to a person, but at noon I have to take a phone out to the phone box on the house and plug it in and see if it works there. If it doesn't, it's their problem; if it does, it's my problem. If it's my problem, I don't know. Maybe a good time to discontinue my landline service and get dsl. I just don't much like cell phones--the sound quality isn't very good. Maybe it will get better--I can remember when a long-distance land-line call was all full of static and crackles. And having dsl would be much nicer than dial-up.
So I guess next either the garage catches fire or one of the dogs comes down with a fatal disease...
Oh, a guy came out to look at the tree yesterday. He's not very experienced--just trying to make some extra money (aren't we all?); they went from a 2-income family to a 1-income family when his wife got sick, and they have a kid in college. So he looked it over and said he'd get back to me--I think he was a little daunted by how much crap there is. Anyway, it turns out he's the younger brother of a girl who was in my class at school. We spent about half an hour remembering teachers' names at the Lab School. Kinda fun.
