Once more, I spent a good deal of the morning struggling with the computer. I cannot understand why the desktop won't download photos from my camera. It recognizes that the camera is there. I've uninstalled and re-installed the software for both the camera and the photo program I use. They both recognize the camera is there. But they refuse to admit there are any pictures on the camera. It's really annoying!!!! So is the external hard drive that apparently is broken. I was just browsing for a new one--I can get the same model---which is no longer made or supported by the company--for $20, or I can get a different one made by a different company for $100. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.
At any rate--
Remember I mentioned that the clematis is growing up into the lilac branches. I wanted to get a picture of it, and I think this is a nice one.
Here are the Asiatic lilies. Seems like every year there are more of the cream-colored ones, which are very pretty, but not where they are. As you can see, they really don't show up against the white wall of the garage.
But they would look great against a dark background. Imagine all those cream lilies back there against that dark strip beside (actually behind) the tree on the right. The way the lily between the tree and the wind chimes looks. That strip gets quite a bit of morning sunlight--they'd get at least as much light as they're getting now, I think.
As you can see, SOMETHING is eating the leaves of this rose, and I have no idea what it is. I've sprayed it and sprayed it, and the poor thing is barely clinging to life because something's eating the leaves clear down to the center vein. I've looked and looked and don't see anything creepy-crawly. If anyone has suggestions, please help me save the life of this innocent rose!
Saving the best for last, as always. I've been meaning to add something to pictures of this giant hosta to give some idea of just how big the thing is. So here's Taenzer sitting beside it. Pretty darn big, isn't it? And the silver lamium at its feet set it off so nicely. I ought to divide it, but I just get so much satisfaction out of it as it is that I think I'll wait at least another year. Meanwhile, I have to figure out where to move the two heucheras that are smothering beneath it. (Taenzer's sitting on one, but if you click to enlarge the picture, you can just make out the other one on the right side of the hosta, just above the lamium)

That's a big hosta ;-).
For your rose, try googling for a non-lethal bug spray that incorporates hot pepper sauce and Ivory soap. I forget the exact recipe but our neighbor back in NC used it (he added a plug of chewing tobacco). The soap is non-toxic and helps coat the leaves and the rest of the ingredients make it taste bad. I think with roses, however, you want to try it on some of the leaves, only.
