New Socks!

I have new socks!

These use a basketweave-rib pattern. The yarn is Online Linie 3 Supsersocke 100, no color name that I could find, and the socks were knit on size 1 needles. This is the pair I've been working on while I'm out with the dogs. I started them back in 2007 sometime, but it only took 2 weeks to finish this one sock (hey--it was like an hour a day knitting, okay?--so you could probably finish a pair in a week, even if you had a job, if that's the only project you were working on). It's a very forgiving pattern--sometimes I would get distracted and do 4 purl rows instead of 3, but you can't tell unless you start counting. It's a pretty yarn and would have looked fine as a plain vanilla sock (see the bottom of the foot), but I think it looks even better in this pattern. And using a size 1 needle instead of a 0 or 00 really made it fly!

From the side--you can see the plain-knit foot here.

Okay, I've only got one of these Spring Lace socks finished so far, but I wanted to get pictures that had the right colors. It's a very hard yarn to photograph because the colors are so delicate. These still don't show the colors quite correctly, but they're better than the last time I tried.

The diamond-lace pattern on the foot. Nancy Bush must have a bigger foot than I do, because I barely had room to finish the final diamond before I had to start decreasing for the toe!

Here you can see the lace strips flanking the diamonds, and get a glimpse of how it serves as a kind of ribbing at the top of the sock (look at the bottom right hand corner of the picture).

I'm really enjoying this pattern, but I do have to pay attention and use a sticky-note to keep track of where I am.

So right now I'm going to move the Tidal Wave socks from the bedroom to the dog yard. I only have 2 pattern repeats to go before I get to the heel, and after that it's all plain knitting, so I'll have another new pair of socks in a week or so!

And I have a pair OTN to replace them in the bedroom. The other night I cast on for Nancy Bush's Elegant Socks from an issue of Piecework that I'm too lazy to get up and find the issue number for. She had the luxury of using quiviut for her socks; I'm using the brown Alpaca Sox that I had left over from the spiral socks. It looks like an easy knit, so they'll be my bedroom pair for now, and I'll have nice warm socks for next winter.

Great looking basket weave socks! Yeah for finishing a pair! I was outside sitting and knitting while the dogs did their things, resting in the shade mostly. I like the Diamond sock very much, it's a beautiful pattern.
I think you mentioned the Piecwork issue before, was it January 2007? I tried to get it, but had no luck.
