living room make-over

If you're looking for knitting content or T-stories, you can skip this post--it's about cleaning up my house.

It's cold here again, so I didn't feel guilty about working on the living room yesterday. It's still crowded, but as you'll see, it isn't *as* crowded and when the computer cart is tucked away it gives me a lot more floor space.

This is what it looked like yesterday morning, when I had stuff out all over the place and practically no space to put my feet. Taenzer found herself trapped on the couch, and I kept having to move things from in front of the french doors so I could get boxes out into the other room!

Ta da! The new view:

(Yes, it's a hardwood floor, and yes, it badly needs to be refinished. I'd throw a rug over it, but then I couldn't roll the cart to its resting location, here):

Cart in front of couch--from here you can (almost) see the smaller cart in front of the desk with the printer, laptop, and software CDs on it. Oh yes, and a basket of knitting and the stack of unfiled genealogical papers on the bottom shelf. There's a bookcase there off to the right with knitting magazines in it; the small cart also rolls, so that I can access them without much trouble.

You can also see one of the sconce lamps--there's a pair, one on the other side of the pair of windows behind the futon there--and see why I thought I needed a lamp closer to where I work.

I haven't shown you the yarn corner, which still needs work, but that will have to wait until I can get the dresser and end tables and electronic stuff out of the "spare room" and set up some storage for it. I want something similar to what I have in my yarn corner (which I may move into the yarn-room-to-be so I can move the stuff by the desk into that corner...). I have 2 3-shelf units, a 2-door 2-shelf unit, and a 25-cubby shoe-holder set up and it looks nice, makes it easy to see what's there, and the shoe cubbies hold a surprising amount of yarn in each cubby. It'll be excellent for all those skeins of dk acrylic I've inherited--I'll really be able to see what colors I have and get a good sense of how much of each color there is.

So how long will this stay tidy? Well, probably not for long--I'm not naturally a tidy person--but I've got control of the clutter for at least--oh--a week! *lol*

Hey!!
How about just a quick wash with Murphy's oil soap? cut it with water so doggys don't slide around--but it will work wonders on that floor!!1
