I took my laptop in to work this morning and spent two hours trying to connect to wireless. Finally heard our computer guru out in the hall, went and begged for two minutes of his time, he came in, looked at my keyboard, and said, "See that button there?" Bingo; connection. *sigh*
Then I had PT at 1:45, which meant I didn't get back to work until 3, and there was my work computer, and talk about messed up! Yes, it works--I guess--but ALL my electronic postits are gone; I have no idea when any of my appts. are or what reminders I had written down; ALL the settings had to be re-done (like I turn off all the computer sounds on my computer--*that* basic), the Yahoo toolbar was gone from my browser, and on and on.
Luckily, Alice was gone, but she'd left things for me to do, and Mark, bless him, kept coming out and saying, "Hey, Judi? Will you do this?" or "Hey, Judi, let me tell you about this" and the phone kept ringing and Barb went home early because her neck is bothering her again and her doctor made her take a muscle relaxant and she was feeling too dopey to say at work, which I totally understand, but I just wanted to scream "LEAVE ME ALONE!! MY COMPUTER WON'T WORK!" Okay, it works, but it doesn't look right. I lost my beautiful wallpaper and my screensaver, and there's just something wrong with the overall look of the basic screen.
And it's raining.
So I came home and thought--knitting. Knitting is calming. I'll start my new sock. I decided last night to do the New England sock from Nancy Bush's Knitting on the Road, which starts off with a Double-Start Cast-On--something I've never tried before and can't figure out from the instructions and drawings. This is relaxing?? I'll have to see if I can find some instructions on line that make more sense to me. I like the way it looks, it gives it a kind of picot edge, but I can't figure out how to do it!
The good news: my knees felt pretty good today. They've been doing ultrasound and wrapping them in moist heat at the end of the exercising, and I think that really helps. I lay there and practice deep breathing during the heat treatment, and I'm pretty darn relaxed, thank you, by the time they unwrap me. A lady was on the table next to me today just starting knee therapy. She was in even worse shape than I am, and after doing 30 repeats with each leg of about 4 exercises she looked over at me lying there breathing and enjoying the heat and said, "That's what I want to do." I just smiled at her and said, "This is your reward." :)
They have some kind of Wellness Plan for $25 a month that I want to ask about. Could I play with all the machines? I'd like to work on my upper body strength--and my rear end and abs and pretty much everything, actually. I'd be apt to do it if I could go in the middle of the day. :) Like about 1:00, right after lunch. I never take vacation, so I've definitely got the personal time; it would just be arranging it with people at work. If I had to do it over lunch or after work, I wouldn't go. (I know myself pretty well...)
Oh, no shooting at work, but the students are pretty scared. One faculty member said one of her classes want to have class with the lights off (presumably so the bad guy wouldn't know anyone was in the room), wanted to leave window open as a means of escape (and if you weighed more than about 110 you couldn't fit through those open-from-the-bottom-windows), jumped and got wild-eyed whenever they heard a noise out in the hall, and when she gave them an in-class assignment and told them they could leave when they finished, they refused to leave one at a time, they wanted to leave as a group. There's a $4k reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever wrote the note--the university president personally put up a thousand dollars and the apartment complex managers put up two, to go along with the Crime Stoppers money. Our university president is an interesting guy...
Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday.
