Y'know how you're knitting along, and the pattern says something like "knit until so-many inches from beginning"? And every time you measure, you seem not to have progressed at all?
I had the brilliant idea to make a little hat to go with the little booties for my nephew. I was worried I didn't have enough variegated yarn, but I found a coordinating solid yarn in the stash (and can't for the life of me remember what I made with it originally...). Good. Found a pattern on line to get an idea of how many stitches to cast on. Decided that since the bootie has purl ridges, I'd make the hat with purl ridges.
I had this idea that--you know--a baby hat--how long can it take? I'd just whip it out, right?
Not exactly. It's supposed to be 4-1/2 inches long before I start decreasing, and my sister, who knows more about babies than I do, says it should be as long as I can manage it. I've been stuck at 3 inches for about 2 days...
I hope my yarn holds out!

i like it a lot! And I like that you didn't use "Baby colors". Is this the second booty in the picture?
Yeah, I like bright colors on babies. A friend once told me she thought babies look best in red, and that kind of stuck in my mind. And years ago I saw a knit dress for a toddler that was like "a little black dress," long sleeves and a modified A-line, with bright embroidery on the yoke, and it looked super. Who'd think to dress a little girl in black? But with her white lace tights and bright red hair bow, it was very festive.
