Pain! Agony! Internet Withdrawal!

The university shut down our access to the internet for maintenance or something, and I've been sort of semi-frantic--Want to ask someone something--uh--can't, no e-mail. Want to kitchener stitch the shoulders of my baby sweater together--oh darn, no internet, can't access the tutorial. Okay, let's do some genealogical research--um--paper and pen?

I did take the Ts nursery-hopping. Apparently the garden boom is over, at least here in Forgottonia. For several years the farm store and a couple of the grocery stores and K-Mart and the local annual nursery had really really really nice selections. Last year wasn't so great. This year--well, we're back to petunias, alyssum, pansies, dusty miller, a few hostas. Pretty sad.

I did get some hot pink mini-petunias (calobrochia?) and a pot of dark magenta-almost-purple with gold streaks, and some Silver Lace dusty miller to plant in the raised bed (which, I discovered as I was planting, is solidly infiltrated with roots of something--probably that expletive-deleted maple tree). Managed to break the stems of the dark one--I hope it will come back; it will be a nice accent. Got a white astilbe for the shade garden--haven't planted it yet. Got 3 pink pentas for the front rose bed, but couldn't find persian shield or heliotrope. Or dwarf goatsbeard.

My last hope is a nursery in one of the little nearby towns--it's pretty sophisticated, and usually has a good selection of annuals for container planting as well as a huge collection of hostas, and some other perennials. I think we'll go out tomorrow morning--pray for us that we get there and back in one piece.

The Ts had fun though, I think; at least they got out of the house and yard. I'll take them with tomorrow, and there'll be people for them to look at and the nursery dog to bark at.
