geek-girl triumphs!

12:30--I am gonna be SO cranky in the morning.

BUT: I just boosted the RAM in my desktop from 256 to 1GB. I hope this will result in less swearing at the computer on my part and faster, more efficient running on its part.

Actually, it's a wonder it ran at all, poor thing--it was full of really fine, sneezy-type dust. I suppose that means I should try to remember, once a year, to take the cover off and blow dust out of it. It's a wonder it didn't burst into flame with all that linty dust wrapped around the electrical wiring like so much tinder. It's considerably quieter--I suppose because now it can breathe. I don't know how to keep dust out of it--it's been a particular curse of this house to be afflicted with very fine, very sticky (probably laden with air-borne grease particles from the nearby fast-food places) dust; it's just impossible to keep things clean.

Heh. At least I've got one computer running. Now I have to figure out what's wrong with the laptop--it wouldn't connect with anything tonight, and kept losing its connection. I wonder if I'm going to have to replace the modem? I wonder if I can swap out the modem in the laptop my brother gave me to put in this one? Probably not, since they're different brands of computer.

I know putting in RAM is pretty easy as computer things go, but it always gives me a warm glow of accomplishment when I do it.

Maybe I should go to bed now. I wonder if I should post the 256 chip on the local free list--somebody might be able to use it.
