Well, yesterday they did. We had actual visitors yesterday, from 11 to about 3:30. Timber worked himself into a total tizzy and had to be crated several times. He was just so excited, and if you didn't jam a tennis ball into his mouth he jumped on people, and since one of my guests is pregnant that wasn't really the best thing he could have done. Of course they were greatly impressed with how stunningly handsome Timber is, and they wanted to pet him, but we just couldn't get him to HOLD STILL. We had to keep throwing his tennis ball. That's--4 and a half hours. Toward the end he was like a toddler, so tired and excited he couldn't settle down by himself, so he got crated about the last half hour. Fortunately my guests were very tolerant and like dogs.
Taenzer settled down pretty quickly, although periodically she took it into her head to climb into someone's lap and give kisses. She is the biggest goofball. She did show off her pretty tricks--sit up, down, speak, touch (with nose), paw (touch with paw), spin, twirl, weave, go touch (a sticky note on the oven in the kitchen--totally useless, but I keep thinking it might be the beginning of something else), right foot (raise her right forefoot), left (she turns her head to the left). My guests kindly took her part and said she did not look geeky or bad-hair-day-ish.
Oh, Timber also did his tricks, which are a little more limited--sit up, down, touch, paw, lie flat.
It's so amusing to compare the two of them sitting up. Timber's wide and so strong, and he just pivots up from a sit, with his front legs dangling down--like a squirrel--he looks like he could sit that way forever. Taenzer's narrower and I think longer in the loin, so she has to concentrate on keeping her balance, and crosses her paws over her chest, which is completely adorable. I'll try to get some pictures of them doing this.
At any rate, they totally crashed for the evening--all that unaccustomed excitement--but today they're all ready to go again. Which of course leads me to the puppy pen. It's supposed to warm up and rain some more next week, so I think I'll put down some more grass seed. There's definitely grass coming up, but I'd like it to be thicker, and there's still some out there that hasn't germinated. Boy, I'm going to be happy when we can start going out there two or three or four times a day. It doesn't socialize them much but it does keep them in shape.
Anyway, it was an excellent experience for them. I need more visitors. If the house wasn't in the state it's in, I'd invite people over.
