New Vogue Knitting

(Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE this computer?)

I took Timber with me this morning to take him for a walk on his flexi-leash around campus--he was SO HAPPY to be able to run around (sort of)--and then we went to Walgreens so I could get chocolate, diet Coke, bottled water, salmon oil caps, and Ultra Phazyme because Taenzer scared the bejeezus out of me last night by throwing up foamy mucus and I had given her the last Ultra Phazyme in the house (massive doses of Ultra Phazyme can sometimes stave off bloat and gastric volvulus (http://www.ginnie.com/gdv.htm) . And while I was in the store I saw they actually had copies of the Spring/Summer Vogue Knitting! I've never seen a knitting magazine in that store before, so I was very happy and of course bought a copy.

I like Vogue Knitting. I think it may be my favorite knitting mag. I haven't liked Knitters much since the current editor took over, and Interweave Knits has a lot of highs and lows. Do they still publish Family Circle Easy Knits? Anyway, Vogue Knitting can go over the top, but it's Vogue, you know? Vogue has always been over the top to a greater or lesser extent, but they usually have some really good, knittable, wearable patterns.

I notice this issue is about 75% ads, 10% pattern photos, and 15% pattern instructions, but I guess that's magazine publishing these days. I also noticed that I stuck in markers about every other page. Some of them were for patterns I would make if I were still a size 8, like the very elegant black and chocolate-brown dress with brown short-sleeved jacket. Some were for patterns I thought I might be able to adapt, like the oversize lace top--at my current weight I like sleeves at least to my elbows. And some were for patterns I'd like to make just as they are, like the 10-color cape--that would make a great bathrobe to throw on to take the Ts out in the morning. Well, okay, not JUST as it is; I probably wouldn't use those colors. But I wouldn't tinker with the pattern itself.

I was going to scan in pictures of some of the patterns and comment on them, but this wretched computer and my scanner colluded to prevent me, and it's probably illegal, anyway.
