more garden pics!

I hope you're not getting bored--everything is just so pretty this year! I guess this is a lesson on just how much water this garden would love to have ideally.

I can't believe how lucious the blue columbines look! I suppose it's ungrateful of me to wish they were white but just imagine how white columbines would sing in this shady spot. I could move the blue ones to another spot (erm--somewhere... I'm sure I could figure it out). These pictures don't capture the true color, which is several shades darker.

Unlike the columbines, these pictures of the German iris are pretty close to the correct color. I would love to mix in some soft lavender-pinks (Beverly Sills? although she's coral-pink) and perhaps a yellow or two (Sky Hooks? Sun Ray Reflection?) . I don't see why I couldn't add a few iris--or maybe just turn the entire bed into an iris bed. I begin to see why Henry Mitchell was so nuts about them.

I'm thinking of moving the pink spiderwort and wild columbine to the other end of the bed anyway--they're not really visible from the street up there, with their smaller flowers. You'll have to click on the picture for the larger version to see them here! Then I could spread the blue iris the length of the rest of the bed and add those yellows and pinks. A few--I want to keep it mostly blue.

Here's a close-up of the Pewter Veil heuchera I transplanted. So far it's looking okay--all 3 pieces look pretty perky, leaves up (not wilty)--maybe it will pull through. I hope so--it will look quite beautiful glowing softly silver in the shade--not bright like the lamium, but soft and shadowy. "Glamorous" might be a good word. The greenery is fall-out from last night's storm--lots of wind, but the tornados missed us, thank goodness!

I need to get some dirt. I've got two raised beds that need to be filled. Then I'd have a place to move the pink-flowered lamium, the blue columbines, and the pink spiderwort (to be replaced, respectively, with white-flowering lamium White Nancy, white columbines, and iris). I think I might be able to put the Siberian iris there, too. It would be a very pretty grouping, wouldn't it? With pretty foliage when everything stops blooming (except the columbines, which always get leaf-borers, but oh well). I like the idea of the lamium tumbling over the top edge of the blocks.

It's all gorgeous!

I'll bring my trowel when I come visit to help you move stuff!

I love that heuchera--the subtle white on it is so classy.
