cute Timber

It's snowing here today--not a lot, and it's pretty warm, but it's come down pretty steady all day, so there's a couple of wet, heavy inches on the ground and mud under that.

So after I got the laundry started this morning I gave each dog a slice of marrow bone. Taenzer's eyes just glazed over and she sank to the floor where she stood. I had to chase Timber off my unmade bed(!) but then he settled down into Taenzer's crate.

A long stretch of peace and silence broken by the sound of doggy teeth on raw bone.

I think I was into my 2nd load of laundry when Timber came trotting out of the bedroom. He stopped in the kitchen and looked at Taenzer for a long time. She had managed to crack her bone in half and ignored him. He approached her very carefully and attentively, put his slice of bone down between her front feet, then backed up a couple of steps and barked at her.

Call me anthropormophic, but that says "Hey, let's trade" to me just as clearly as if he'd been able to say it in English. And it was incredibly cute.

Taenzer looked at his bone with this sort of puzzled look on her face and stopped chewing her bone for a second. Then she sniffed his bone. And he very carefully stepped forward and picked up the piece of her bone that was closest to him, then went back to the bedroom.

A peaceful trade, beautifully done. It was beautiful to watch. Also very cute.

I'm slightly more than half finished with my 2nd sleeve. I don't think I'll get it finished tonight, but maybe tomorrow night. Hooray for me!

Maybe it's safe for me to start thinking about what to make next. I printed out a list of some of the sweatery (as opposed to socky or baby) yarns I have:
  • Berger du Nord wool, silver-grey
  • KFI Mosaica, a wool/acrylic mix in teal/bronze/wine
  • dark blue, denim blue, and silver-grey Cash Iroha
  • dark taupe Austermann Naturwolle
  • light taupe Austermann Naturwolle
  • dark brown Lopi

There's also an assortment of shetland-type yarns that I think I could make into something multi-colored--violet, rose heather, blueberry heather, blackberry.

And some nice fingering/sport weights that I don't know exactly how much there is, yardage-wise--a gorgeous 100% wool from an organic sheep farm a friend gave me, and a couple of different shades of silk tweed. They're all shades of brown (I know, all my color choices sound boring, but I was a redhead when I bought them, and was looking at colors to set off my hair), so if these three knit up at about the same gauge, I could possibly make something like an adult surprise jacket in stripes of the three yarns.

So I have lots to think about. :)

Oh, that's a cute story of your pups, and how cleverly done! Good luck with your sweater, and I hope you don't have to think too hard for what you'll do next. :o) But that's part of the fun, isn't it?

Monika, how's Sam doing?

Our two get very sly...one will abandon his bone and sneak over to steal her bone while she is sneaking over to steal his bone ad infinitum....
