I've actually done things this weekend. Not laundry, which I need to do, because my knees were giving out warning signals--I might try a load some evening after I've had PT. But this weekend I've
1. "danced" with Taenzer and confused her with a new move--but I think we both had a good time. Little Richard's "Get Rhythm" from the Johnny Cash tribute album Kindred Spirits. It's impossible to listen to that and not dance!
2. made a new plastic cover for the canopy of the swing in the puppy pen--may not look all that great, but the canopy isn't waterproof or even water resistant any more, so if it rains the cushions get wet.
3. Cleaned up the puppy pen a bit--took up Taenzer's last tunnel, which was reduced to rags--I'll put the new ones out soon, if I can decide what to do about the grass. I kind of poked around with the rake to see if there was any grass under the straw. After all the work I put into it last year, it's a little discouraging to not see much. I haven't decided whether to put down grass seed again this year. I may wait and see if perhaps the grass is just a slow-greening kind and will start looking better in a few weeks. If it does, it'll really be too late to put down seed, but I could do it in the fall, which is when you're supposed to plant grass seed. I didn't seen any of Stella's daffodils, which made me sad.
4. clipped off a lot of dead perennial foliage from last year--peonies, clematis, daylilies, iris--and dumped it in the compost heap. I'm hoping to build a better bin for the compost this year out of lath and chicken wire, or maybe 1x2s? Something fairly sturdy that I can hold together with hooks and eyes, so it's easy to open and move, so I can actually turn the thing like you're supposed to. I may actually have some compost down there on the bottom that i could put around the roses and things.
While I was clipping, I discovered I'm going to have to get a gardening stool--my knees were NOT happy about having my weight on them, even on soft ground. *sigh*
5. put stuff back into the van--collars, flexi-leashes, "emergency" nylon leashes, seat-belt harnesses, blue and hot pink bandanas, rubber-soled booties for Taenzer when she has to walk on slick floors. I need to get some treats to add to it, and a water bowl. I'm thinking about getting a metal garbage can to store an unopened bag of Evo and some cans of green tripe, and some copies of their medical records and photos--just in case of emergencies, you know. I could store some gallons of water for them, too.
While I was doing that I found a great old flashlight I got from Sears years ago. It has a forward beam light, a little fluorescent lamp, and red and yellow lights that either shine or flash, depending on how you set them. The batteries are dead, but I think the bulbs all need to be replaced too. Or I could just get something else to carry in the van. I just really liked that one--it's so multipurpose.
6. I started the Nancy Bush lace sock. Four times (so far). I don't know why I'm having such trouble with it; it's not a difficult pattern. I'm just not paying attention, I guess. I was hoping to have enough done to take a picture, but I had to rip it back for another start an hour ago, so it'll be another couple of days.
7. Reading Shakespeare's A Winter's Tale. I'd never read it before. I'd like to see the old BBC production of it--Shakespeare always makes more sense if you see it done than if you read it, at least for me. It's an odd play...kind of haunting, almost greek tragedy at the beginning, then you get to Florizel and Perdita, who seem not to be one of Shakespeare's most inspired pair of lovers. At least as far as I've gotten--toward the end of Act IV.
8. Got the dogs out for 6 hours. Taenzer wants her new tunnels and is trying her best to destroy one of the trellis panels I put up to protect one of the tunnels last year. I'm going to have to lean it against the garage, I think, until I get the tunnel in place, before she breaks any more of the bamboo stakes that were holding it or puts another crack in the panel.
9. Threw out a whole lot of old catalogs.
10. Took naps.
Now it's time for me to take the dogs out one last time.

You were sure more productive than I was. What emergency are you thinking of, when you put all the doggie stuff into the van?
Since my DH and his breathing machine are absent, I've been sleeping longer and better, that took away 2 hours from my day, and still I'm tired and want to go to bed right now!
Sorry about your knees. YOu are brave to read Shakespeare. I would doze off in a second. :o)
Yeah, I was pretty surprised at myself! I'm so lazy. Maybe by next September I'll have the house cleaned out if this keeps up! *lol*
Oh, no particular emergency--you know--hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, tornadoes, the end of civilization as we know it. I have this goofy idea that we ought to be able to live out of the van for a week if we need to.
I like Shakespeare, but I always understand it better after I've seen it performed. Then I can go back and read it and think about it. I'm not enough of a scholar or play-goer to always get the emphases right just by reading. And his plays are so complicated--there's so much to think about!
I'm glad you've been able to sleep better! Did you go to be early last night?
Oh yes. I'm going to bed at 10 and wake up at 7 or 8. When DH is home, I sleep a lot less, go to bed later and get up at 6. I'm enjoying this now. He'll be away until Saturday.
Last night my internet was down. I played Cubis Gold on my computer, because my fingers were too sore to knit another stitch. But now I'm ready again. :o)
