The doctor says I have mild osteoarthritis, but that the main problem is that my kneecaps aren't tracking properly. She's referring me to physical therapy, to strengthen my thigh muscles, and prescribed Naproxen, which is a NSAID. The side effects are pretty terrifying--"NSAID medicines may increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke that can lead to death." "NSAID medicines can cause ulcers and bleeding in the stomach and intestines at any time during treatment. Ulcers and bleeding can happen without warning symptoms and may cause death." Also heart failure, kidney failure, liver failure, life-threatening allergic reactions, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, edema, sun sensitivity... Er--I'm not sure I hurt that much!
Timber peed in the vet's office. Just hiked his leg and let fly. I was so humiliated. The receptionist laughed and said, "Oh, don't worry, dogs do that all the time!" Not my dogs. Never. Ever. The brat. The vet tech took his blood sample and had to stick the poor boy 3 different times before she hit a vein, and Timber isn't one of your stoic "this isn't happening" kind of GSDs; he whined and wiggled and tried to scoot backwards. But bless his heart, he's a good boy--no growling, teeth-baring, or otherwise "leave me alone" warnings, just "Ow that hurts!" Much as I did when the doctor tested my kneecap. ;-)
He's gained weight--all the way up to 73 pounds. He's never weighed over 65 before. About half of it's hair, I think. But also he's maturing--he's four now, or will be soon, a grown-up boy. Stella and Nixie both ran about 75 pounds, so for a guy who's on the small side, 73 is pretty respectable. I'll be interested to see what Taenzer weighs tomorrow. I expect her to still be in the 60-65 pound range.
Yesterday I was going through my stash, moving things around, shifting out some yarns I'm going to give away, and came across two little packets labeled "kid mohair on nylon base." One was sort of camel-colored and the other was a blue/ green/ yellow/ brown mix. Not too much of either, but they looked good together, and I thought that together there was probably enough to make a lacey little shoulder shawl or something, so I sat down and cast on. The solid color is beautifully silky, with a nice drape; the multi-colored one is kind of scrubby and stiff, much to my surprise and displeasure, so after I did about 4 inches, I ripped it back. The multi-color is going into the give-away box, and the solid is turning into a feather-and-fan scarf. Like I need another scarf, but what are you going to do with a couple hundred yards of lace-weight mohair?
Tomorrow: vet (Taenzer), dr., bank, groceries, physical therapy place to make appt.

I had to laugh so hard! Good boy Timber! How nice that he gained weight. He must be so much smaller than my Sam with almost 100lbs! But oh so beautiful!
I actually laughed twice with this post, when you said your knee did not hurt THAT much. I often think that when Doctores prescribe something, and after reading the side effects.
I tried to unload not loved yarn to my daughter, but she's very picky, and has good taste. :o)
He isn't a big dog. I've had dogs in the 100-pound range, a golden retriever and an English Springer Spaniel/Old English Sheepdog cross, and Timber's practically petite compared with them. Deprived childhood, bless his heart.
*lol* Maybe you can put your not loved yarn on freecycle.
Hugs to Sam and Biko.
How long is the Naproxen regime? I've been on it before for something orthopaedic, can't remember what. Perhaps limited doses aren't as risky?
