You may remember I was wishing for new covers for the couch and futon. I never did find any I liked and could afford, but while I was in K-Mart looking for rugs, I saw that they had a sale on their bedding and things. So for $20 I got one of those complete sheet sets--fitted sheet, flat sheet, pillow cases. (And btw, how cute is Miss Bright-Eyes back there?)
These won't show dirt too badly and they're easily washable, plus they go with the velveteen drapes on the windows. Since they also had a 2-for-1 sale on throw pillows I got a few extra pillows to brighten up the sheets a bit. The dark brown throw was probably a stupid purchase, but it wasn't expensive and it sort of "grounds" things. It will also give me a nice background for knitting pictures, since I no longer have the dark blue sheet.
This is my new little work corner:

It looks terribly cluttered, but believe me it's MUCH better than before! I've got a lot more space to put things. There's an organizer where I can keep bills, my knitting journal, my camera, the phone books, and all my remote controls, with space underneath to put patterns and a skein or two of yarn. A nice mug with books all around the rim and a quote from Henry Ward Beecher ("A little library growing each year is an honorable part of a man's history.") to hold all the pens I discovered while I was cleaning up, as well as a couple of highlighters and a couple of crochet hooks in different sizes for grabbing dropped stitches. A lamp for reading or knitting. A safe, convenient place for a mug or a glass of diet Coke and T-treats, and space for a knitting project. There's a small table there (it's old--I remember my family used to put our Christmas trees on it) and a little end table, which gives the step effect; unfortunately, the way they're arranged I can't get to either the shelf under the table or the drawer and storage area of the end table, but one can't have everything.

This is slightly closer. The cart rolls, and can be rolled off to the side and pushed up against the end table so it's more or less out of the way. You can see Timber's living room crate in the background--the grey thing under the printer. My plan is to move the crate into the basement, and move the printer onto the drop leaf of the desk, which you can't really see in this photo. And once the crate is out of the way, I can put what's currently on the desk into a couple of big baskets *under* the desk, and if I roll the cart over there it'll be even more out of the way.
And finally--I just couldn't resist. Is this guy cute or what?

Oh yeah. He's way, way cute. He's probably the guy I should have married, reincarnated as a German Shepherd. We probably get along a lot better this way. :)

Not bad at all! Timber looks like he wants something. :o) I can't get over their lovely coats, and darf faces. He's a handsome guy.
Thank you! I certainly think so (just in case I haven't managed to make it flamingly obvious! ;-D )
You know one thing I think helps a lot with their beautiful coats is Tripett. It's canned green tripe. They each get half a 15 oz. can a day. It looks and smells disgusting, but they love it. I smoosh it up and mix it with warm water and soak their kibble in it, and stir their other supplements into the "soup." Anyway, for a while I was giving them something else and I noticed a change in the texture and depth of color of their coats. Now they're back on Tripett and in their glory.
As for the living room--well, it's not particularly high style, but it's inexpensive and livable if bland. If I had a sewing machine, I might make some brighter colored cases for the pillow, to punch things up for the warmer weather. But it'll do.
