From time to time on the various knitting lists I'm on someone talks about knitting needle injuries, where they've impaled various parts of themselves on a knitting needle. I've always thought, "Geez, how can you be that careless??"
Well, I can tell you one way--you grope around on top of Taenzer's crate, which is above my head when I'm lying on the bed.
It was a size 0 sock needle, and it went in between my first and 2nd finger, parallel with the fingers. I guess there's not very much in terms of blood vessels and nerves there--it hardly bled at all, it's not bruised or swollen this morning, and just vaguely hurts.
My first thought, after I pulled it out, was to get the stitches back on the needle. *lol*
But I'll tell you--something in the human mind refuses to believe that it's seeing a length of metal sticking out of one of its hands.

Ouch! I had once grabbed a Bamboo sock needles, which just fell down on the floor. It's wall to wall carpet floor, and the needle just got stuck vertically, and my hand was moving so fast, so it got stuck in my palm as well. It hurt a few days, but I lived! :o)
Ouch, Monika! That sounds like it would hurt more than what happened to me! I can completely imagine how it happened.
Sock knitting and lace knitting is more dangerous than it looks! *lol*
