I have this little $10 cell phone, and an inexpensive little mp3 player, and realized I needed to have something to put them in so they don't get bashed up and dirty. So I decided to make something.
You may remember that several months ago a friend left a huge garbage bag full of yarn on my doorstep. One of the things in it was part of a skein of lime green Red Heart TLC Wiggles, so I decided to use that. (I like the yarn a lot, btw--it would make great baby things!) I used double knitting, with a knit stitch down the middle to divide the pouch into two segments, one for the phone and one for the player. Small problem--I wound up making it inside out--I was knitting the stitches on the *far side* of the pouch, which means the knit stitches face inside. I thought I could just turn it rightside out when I got finished, but I forgot about the dividing stitch in the center. Oh well, it probably looks better this way, anyway--what Bob Ross used to call a "happy accident" --since with any kind of yarn with puffs or fur or anything that sticks out the sticky-out parts always seem to wind up on the purl side. Here's the result:
It's nice, but I think it looks a tad unfinished. I have some size 3 perle cotton--if I can remember where it is--and color probably doesn't matter too much since the "wiggles" are all different colors--that I could use to backward crochet around the outside edges of the pouch and the edges of the flaps, that would make it look a little more finished, I think. (I love the ropey look of backwards crochet.)
I haven't decided what to do about a fastening. Maybe a crocheted strand across, that you'd just tuck the flaps under? (Too bad I don't have any funky beads to put on it.) Little ball or half-hemispherical buttons in bright colors for the flaps would be good. I wish there was someplace around Forgottonia to buy buttons (and beads) besides Walmart!! ARGH!!!
(You know what I'd like to do is clean out that back room and turn it into--not exactly a yarn studio, but a place to store all my yarn and other needlework supplies. I've got stuff cached all over the house, so I'm never quite sure where anything is.)

I think you SHOULD clean out that back room and make it primarily for yarn/craft storage! Wish I could come help you.
I wish you could come help, too, Susan! Wouldn't that be fun?
I think eventually that room will be a yarn room, but for right now it's Annie's room. (lots of cat litter dust)
