Some evenings I step out of the house to let the dogs potty and I think, gee, wouldn't it be nice to maybe get a tent with a lot of netting and sleep out in the back yard in the nice cool air?
I didn't think that last night and I don't expect to tonight. It's 90 degrees--the temperature has actually gone *up* in the past hour--and the humidity is killing. Last night I stepped outside, broke into an instant sweat, and said, "C'mon, you guys, hurry up, I'm dying!" then scurried back into the AC as soon as they were finished.
The past couple of days they've been sitting at the windows, wistfully looking out, and I keep telling them, "No, really, you don't want to go out there--it's terrible!"
It got me thinking about, say, January, when I sit around all bundled up in the house (including my favorite-ever Lopi sweater and a couple of pairs of hand-knit socks!), and outside it's like 2 degrees with a substantial below-zero windchill and it's spitting hard little ice pellets. The very same thing happens: they sit at the windows and look out wistfully, and I say, "No, really, you guys, its FREEZING out there!"
Being long-haired GSDs they don't mind the winter weather as much as weather like today's. Last night they lasted about 20 minutes before they were ready to come back in, poor babies. I never know who to watch most closely: Taenzer, whizzing around at the speed of light, or Timber, with his thick, heavy coat. The hot weather always seems to bother him most, but when we come inside he won't come into the air conditioning; he prefers to hang out in the enameled cast-iron bathtub.
And just like in winter, I wish I could spend the day inside at home, listening to music and playing with the Ts and knitting and reading, but they never have weather emergencies in the summer.
I've moved the outside project, the Cannon Beach socks, into the living room for a while, and am making good progress on the foot. The Lemonade sock is my current before-bed project, and last night I got 3 4-row pattern repeats done. They're going to be such pretty socks!
Taenzer, btw, thanks everyone for the compliments and hopes there won't be a repeat. ;-)
Tonight's soundtrack: "It's 90 degrees, have mercy, John, please! Now for God's sake, John, sit down!" (from the musical 1776)

I go outside several times a day, because nobody can stand the heat. Sam gets all excited and jumps around inside, and when I say we go, he opens the doors and runs outside like a crazy dog. Once outside he gets his red Jolly Ball and falls down, panting, but happy. Not a single movement from him after that. :o)
Biko can cool off in the pool, so she runs a while longer, but everybody is happy when I say the words: Inside troops to the A/C! ;o)
alright in my previous post, it sounds like I'm nuts. Of course we go outside more often, but for only about 10-15 minutes before I can't stand it anymore. So there. Nuts, but not totally. ;o)
Hey!! I love your blog! May I add you as one of my favourites? Please step by and tell me ;)
