The Amazing Ms. T

Taenzer's always liked to carry things around, from the time she was just a chunky little fuzzball.

I encouraged it, within reason, since I discovered with her great-aunt Stella just how convenient a dog with a good retrieve can be. So she's always been rewarded for bringing me things, and will often drag a t-shirt in from the bedroom when she wants my attention.

At this point she also knows some words like "Get Mommy's shoes" or "Get Mommy's socks," and is always so proud of herself when she brings back the correct article.

Well, she's even smarter than I thought. I've been wearing a particular pair of slides all summer to go outside in. Usually I take them off and put them right away (and all my other shoes) so she doesn't come trotting in with them later in the evening, but tonight I was tired and down, so I just toed them off in the bedroom and left them when I changed my clothes. I read, and took a nap, and we ate dinner, and finally about 7 I got up to take them out to play. Purely on whim, I said, "Taenzer, where are my shoes? Can you go get them?"

There was a black shoe (which I had neglected to put away) in the kitchen, but nosirree, she trotted right past that in a very business-like manner, into the bedroom, and returned to the living room with one of my slides. Then she turned around without being prompted and went and got the other one.

I was flabbergasted and thrilled and proud. She's my amazing girl.
