I now know what my purpose in life is, why I was put here on this Earth:
To hold deer antlers at exactly the right angle for Timber to most efficiently chew on them.
It's nice to know these things, don't you think?

Too funny! Do dogs chew on deer antlers? Don't they split or something. I've not found a thing my dogs can chew without being a health threat.
Deer antlers are a WONDERFUL chew, Monika. Timber is a power chewer, and I looked and looked and looked for something that would stand up to him and that he would enjoy chewing. I'm sure you know how it is--cow hooves get wedged in their teeth, pig ears last about 30 seconds, rawhide scares me (not to mention that it gets slimy and disgusting), greenies scary. I would give them raw beef knuckle bones but it gives both of the Ts the runs (oddly enough--raw beef knuckle bones constipated Stella). He would chew on nylabones sorta half-heartedly, but he wasn't really interested in them.
Deer antlers are just great. They last an incredibly long time, they don't get slimy, they don't stink. They don't splinter or break (although I suppose something with really massive jaws or a dog with a too-small-for-his-size antler might be able to snap one); the dogs seem to sort of wear them down.
The only possible danger that I know of is when the dog gets it worn down to a size where it might stick in their throats, and then you just hand it on to a smaller size doggy-friend and give your dog a new one.
I get mine from Jess at www.petexpertise.com. She doesn't ship them outside the US, though, and you're in Canada, right? Maybe if you e-mailed her she might know of someone in Canada who sells them. (No affiliation, btw--just a happy, happy customer.)
Thanks for the information. I've got the same fears and experience as you do. I'm going to check if I can find them somewhere in Canada. By the way, I don't have a Dyson, but a good old Kennmore, which is a Canadian make I think. It's not an upright, I have to lug it behind me. I've tried an upright as well, but they were crapp too. ;o) Good luck with your T's. They seem to keep you quite busy!
