Computers

I love computers.

I hate computers.

I've hated the Dell desktop I have since the day I loaded the boxes into the van, and I should have listened to my gut and refused to take delivery. Although, in fairness, it's really been a good computer; I have tons of stuff on it, and it's not its fault that I have dial-up and not broadband. It's probably because the last out-of-town car trip I made with Stella was to pick up that computer, and it was a hot day and the AC wasn't working. I'd probably be happier with it if I put a bigger hard drive in it, added as much RAM as it would take, and got broadband.

But it takes up an ungodly amount of room (it's got one of those old giganto monitors--add a new flat-panel monitor to that list), and I like laptops. I like being able to carry my computer around. So I got this laptop. It has about 20 GB more memory than the desktop, and it has 1 GB of RAM, which is all it will take. And believe it or not, it's even slower with internet stuff than the desktop. I mean, it is type in the URL, buy groceries, cook your dinner, eat, wash the dishes, feed the dogs, and if you're lucky your site will have loaded by then slow.

I finally figured out that's why I haven't switched all the desktop stuff over to the laptop, because it's so freaking slow and I don't know why. It's possible that the telephone cord in the bedroom is too long--at least, I've been told by reliable sources that the signal loses its oomph or something if it has to go down too long a telephone wire. I should hook it up to the phone cord in the living room and see if that makes it any speedier.

In my dreams--along with my nice new house with the 200 amp wiring, shower, big sunny kitchen, water pressure, and giant dog-friendly yard, and the new Honda Fit--I have a laptop with huge memory, huge amounts of RAM, and lightning-fast broadband. A Ferari of a laptop.

Meanwhile, my battery is about to shut down, so I have to stop now.
