Okay, so I cast on for the Print o' the Wave scarf in Lavish Lace, very carefully counting 91 stitches. Count 'em again, twice, as I knit two garter stitch rows. Lay in the first row of the pattern and--stitches left over.
Okay. No problem. I probably messed up. Frog it, cast on again: one, two, three, four... eighty-nine, ninety, ninety-one. Count again, twice, on the garter stitch rows. Yup, 91 stitches. Do the first pattern row, v-e-r-y carefully.
Stitches left over.
Scratch my head. Count on my fingers: 12-stitch pattern, 5 repeats, that's 60 stitches, plus 14 lead-in stitches, that's 74, plus 13 ending stitches, that's--
87.
Which is not 91.
Phooey. Or, as Nero Wolfe would say, "Pfui."
