It's a real spring day out--sunny and mild (and not that I'm complaining or anything, but since I just put grass seed down Friday I could have used another day or two of rain to get it started--I wonder if I'll have to go out there with the hose...)--so I got up early and took the Ts to the "dog park."
I put this in quotes since the area set aside by our local park district for dogs is very small, and gets very little upkeep, with the result that most of the grass is gone (dust in the summer, mucky-mire after last week) and no one picks up after their dogs so there's wall-to-wall dog poop. No trees, no water. Not really a very inviting place, particularly compared to the extensive and elaborate dog parks some cities have.
But it's all we've got, and the Ts love to run, so I sucked it up and took them out there. We were the only ones there, which is what I was after, and the Ts trotted around checking out the smells and leaving a few messages of their own. Then Timber found a basketball to carry around and Taenzer found an old beat-up frisbee. Taenzer LOVES frisbees and doesn't get to play with them very much--there's not enough room in the puppy pen. So I moved us into what grass there was and threw the frisbee for her. The other thing about this area is that it slopes, so I was careful to throw uphill so she wasn't dropping extra on landing.
They had a great time, but bless their hearts, they're SO out of shape, after about 20 minutes they were ready to go. But at least they got to get out in the sun and fresh air and run on grass, which made them happy, so I'm happy too.
